Let’s Celebrate!: Special Days Around the World

This rhyming book is a great little “read at once” book of holidays throughout the year. I like that they write the phonetic spelling of the holiday to help pronounce it correctly and there are many holidays not found in any other books (including ancient civilization holidays!). You won’t know exactly when or what country they are celebrated in until you get to the end of the book, which I think is just fine for this book since it’s more about the rhythm of celebration and rhyming. The author Kate Depalma writes a lot of “Celebrations Around the World” books!

Holidays in this book include: Kodomo no Hi (Children’s Day in Japan), Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), Matariki (Māori New Year), Inti Raymi (Inca New Year), Carnaval (Brazil), Midsommar (Sweden & Finland), Nowkuz (ancient Persian New Year), Passover (Judaism), New Yam Festival (Africa), Novy God (New Year in Russia), Eid al-Fitr (end of Ramadan for Muslims), Dia de Muertos (Mexico), Diwali (India).
